Start with a feeling

How to find a movie for your mood

Sometimes you know how you want a movie to feel before you know what genre to choose. Start with that feeling, then add the time you have and the language you want.

A few ways to start

  • A warm, funny Hindi movie under two hours, without a tragic ending.
  • A mind-bending English mystery with a satisfying reveal, not too scary.
  • A gentle Japanese film for a quiet evening. Subtitles are fine.

Describe the evening, not just the genre

Comedy can mean a gentle family story, a loud farce or dark satire. “Funny but comforting” gives a different starting point from “sharp, awkward and a little dark.” The same is true of thrillers: suspense and graphic violence are different preferences.

Tell Sara AI what you want to feel. If you are choosing with someone else, agree on one shared mood before adding more filters.

Add the limits that matter

Runtime, original language, country of cinema and release period help narrow the choices. Be specific when they are essential, but leave room for a discovery when they are not.

  • Name a maximum runtime when your evening has a fixed end time.
  • Say whether subtitles are welcome; original language does not confirm that a dubbed version exists.
  • Mention unwanted themes directly. A mood match is not a content-safety guarantee.

Use four suggestions as a shortlist

Suggest Me a Movie starts with four recommendations. Read the premise and check the film details before choosing. If the overall direction is wrong, change the request; if the direction is right, shuffle for another set.

A rating is useful context, but it cannot tell you whether a film suits your mood. A slower drama might be a better choice tonight than a higher-rated thriller.

Help future suggestions fit you

Sign in with Google to save your preferences. Like films you enjoy, mark finished films as watched, and use “Don’t like this” for films you do not want recommended again.

Watched and disliked films are excluded from your recommendations. Your liked films help shape later suggestions, while discovery still leaves room for something different.
